Resident Athletes Mikaela Shiffrin & Josiah Middaugh
Resident Gold Medalist
Born and raised here in Colorado's Vail Valley, Mikaela Shiffrin is an alpine ski racer with the U.S. Ski Team who is the current reigning Overall World Cup champion. She won her first Gold Medal in Slalom Skiing at age 18 at the 2014 Sochi Olympics. At the 2018 Winter Games in South Korea, Shiffrin won a Gold Medal in Giant Slalom and a Silver Medal in the Women's Alpine Combined.
On top of training regularly at our Athletic Club, Mikaela holds a series of ongoing, exclusive events where she shares her racing experiences and training tips with our Athletic Club members and resort guests.
The Athletic Club created “Mikaela’s Corner” in her honor, featuring a functional training platform with weight stations, hurdles, sandbags, plyo boxes, kettlebells, bumper plate weights, ropes and slam balls to increase agility, The Club also has a Half-Rack with Platform and a Fitness Duo Slackline.

Resident World Champion
Josiah Middaugh is the 2015 XTERRA World Champion, an 11-time XTERRA USA National Champion and 6-time USSSA National Snowshoe Champion, Middaugh is well known throughout the Vail Valley as an elite level, multi-disciplined athlete. He coaches the Athletic Club’s Master Swim program and coaches athletes of all levels and aspirations through Middaugh Coaching.
Middaugh holds quarterly special events at The Westin Riverfront and contributes a column with helpful training tips to our monthly member e-newsletter.
